About KayaHustle
KayaHustle is a free toolkit for South African sole traders, freelancers and side hustles: an invoice and quote generator, a turnover tax calculator, a VAT registration checker, a sole proprietor vs (Pty) Ltd comparison, and plain-English guides. It is part of KayaWise.
Why "KayaHustle"?
"Kaya" is South African slang for home, and a hustle is the work you build on the side or from home. Small businesses deserve the same simple, correct paperwork as big ones, without paying for software before they earn their first rand.
Where our rules come from
- SARS's turnover tax page, the Budget 2026 Tax Guide and the Budget 2026 FAQs for turnover tax, company tax and the new VAT registration thresholds.
- SARS's VAT 404 guide for vendors, on section 20 of the VAT Act, for tax invoice requirements.
- SARS's pages on provisional tax, small businesses and sole proprietors.
- BizPortal, run by the CIPC, for company registration fees.
- Every rule in our code records its source link and the date we checked it, and each page shows those sources. Where we could not confirm something, we flag it on the page instead of guessing.
- Last full review: 30 October 2026.
What we are not
We are not tax practitioners or accountants, and we are not SARS or the CIPC. Our calculators give estimates and our invoices are templates. For advice on your business, speak to SARS or a registered tax practitioner.
How the site is funded
The site may show clearly labelled display advertising in future. We do not use affiliate or referral links, we are not paid to recommend any bank, accountant or software, and adverts never change a result.
